sql - why [!charlist1] and [characters not in charlist1] not working in same way -

so here 2 queries wrote

select name tblemployees name not '%[! -.]%[ .-]%[! -.]%' order name; select name tblemployees name not '%[a-z]%[ .-]%[a-z]%' order name;

surprisingly both having different results , more surprising fact 1st query shows more results 2nd one..

any possible reasons why both queries not working in same way,

i don't think because characters used in tblemployees in names have other characters a-z', '' (space) . , -.

i have run queries in sol server management.

it should be

[^ -.]

instead of

[! -.]

sql wildcard
