VBA "---" appears as a blank in drop down box in excel spreadsheet -

i wanted default alternative appear --- in drop downwards menu cell along yes , no appeared blank. have scoured web reply why happens have not found anything. curious why happens.

assuming have done similar illustration below:

you have done can "force" info validation cells not blank. think of following; cannot user click on cell, cannot display alert or error if leave cell blank (otherwise continuous , relentless).

what can select "---" alternative before saving. way when user opens form/spreadsheet/etc. default, cell not select "yes/no" for, contain default value "---"

ahh see, excel thinks 3 "subtract" symbols taken literally. if seek , come in --- other cell, "warning" of sorts asking if meant '---
