java - Changing the Character set of a .dbf file -
i have java application should load , print info french special characters .dbf or dbase3 file doesn't work; characters not showing.
i asked this question thinking problem related printing, if see comments can understand figured out problem related database , not printing, since when adding special character jtextpane, prints normally... , tried changing character set of textpane still same problem.
also, complicate more question out there love solving hard problems, when utilize ms access open .dbf file, characters there. i'm thinking, error happens while loading info database... way, info fetching, i'm using api called xbasej doesn't utilize sql, it's own implementation.
i hope have given necessary details , i'd appreciate help, really.. thought help me figure out solution (and problem too).
edit now, answer of ethan furman, know problem related encoding of database wich plain old ascii , it's not related xbasej api.
now, question should be: possible alter encoding of dbase database? , how can it? give thanks @ethan furman, , in advance help related question.
finally, found answer...
first of , mentioned, ethan furman, figured out problem related encoding of dbf database , not xbasej api.
then had search hours tool can help me alter charset of database ascii. found out openoffice apache problem don't have openoffice on windows, , tried download 5 or 6 times every time interrupted since net connection really bad (it downloads @ speed of 6 7kbs) , .exe file 209 mb. had search more software needed task.. , don't how found dbf commander more changing charset. anyways, downloaded trial version shows window telling purchase everytime :d.
finally, changed charset ascii (850 international ms-dos or something) 1252 windows ansi... aaaaand boom! works!
i still think there's difference between terms "codepage" "charset" , "encoding" , i'm using them same.. @ to the lowest degree know exist, , that's new thing learned.
anyways, give thanks 1 time again ethan furman, , i'd give thanks google making possible :d!
