i made mysql rds db instance, , made sure instance within security grouping should allow me connect externally. security grouping allows types of traffic ip addresses. rds in same security grouping ec2 made.

i'm able connect db instance connecting ec2 via ssh, using mysql cli client installed on ec2 connect rds. however, i'm not able connect straight rds mysql client on personal computer. utilize same host , username , rds, circumventing ec2 doesn't work.

from googling around, seem error i'm getting caused rds's security grouping not allowing traffic computer - can't case, because triple checked security grouping open public traffic. heck, rds in same security grouping ec2, , i'm able connect ec2.

so what's going on?

this solved issue me. on rds dashboard have @ security grouping instance. click on , take security grouping page.

although "all traffic" both inbound , outbound click edit , ensure source says ip. not recommend using ip's open 1 on internet. if not have static ip ensure refresh field 1 time connection stops working.

after able connect aws rds t2 instances.
